Description

Jewel-like painting of a scene from a fairy tale, showing swans and a boat on a lake, by pioneering Russian modernist Vladimir Baranoff-Rossine (1888-1944). Baranoff-Rossine emigrated to France in 1925, where continued to paint and develop a range of inventions, including a 'photochromometer' that gauged the qualities of precious stones and a machine that made and sterlized fizzy drinks. Tragically, he was captured and deported by the Nazis during the German occupation of France, and waskilled in a concentration camp.
